Daughter Thanks Crane’s Mill for Mother’s Care

We recently received this letter from a daughter of a former resident, and are happy and proud to share with you here:

My mother lived at Crane’s Mill for almost 10 years, and had a wonderful experience there! She did the usual progression through the different levels of care– she started out in Independent Living for several years, where she made many friends and had an active social life. She moved to Assisted Living when she had an accident and her health started failing, and then did several stints in Skilled Nursing, following various hospitalizations. Once when she was in Skilled Nursing, she was so ill that Hospice was brought in, and even that was a good experience. The staff went above and beyond to try to revive her–incredibly, she pulled through and lived another 3 years! The quality of Crane’s Mill’s facility and staff, in all phases of care, was excellent. The nurses were always warm, caring, and upbeat, even when my mother put up a fuss over taking so many pills, or doing other things she didn’t want to do. The recreational services director did an amazing job of keeping the residents occupied, playing games, showing movies, singing, doing crafts, etc. The PT staff was also wonderful—so warm and encouraging, even in the face of failing physical abilities. Even the dining staff was friendly and caring! When my mother finally passed away last October at the age of 98, I was truly touched by the outpouring of sympathy by the staff. The Director of Community Relations even came to the wake, which meant so much to me. The staff truly tries their best to make life pleasant for the residents; they took exceptional care of my mother in her final years, for which I am truly grateful. Thank you, Crane’s Mill!

Celebrating Earth Day

Today marks the 48th annual celebration of Earth Day!

An Eastern Tiger Swallowtail lands for a visit to Crane's Mill.

An Eastern Tiger Swallowtail lands for a visit to Crane’s Mill.

It’s hard to believe this “new” holiday is approaching its golden anniversary. Started in 1970, Earth Day began as a day to “honor the Earth and the concept of peace.”

Today, the tradition continues as people gather to pay tribute to the planet, march for environmental causes, and gather for service projects like neighborhood cleanups.

At Crane’s Mill, we have a special place for Earth Day. Our campus is a Certified Wildlife Habitat, and sits alongside an area of protected wetlands. That means two important things: 1., we’re done building, so all the open space you see is there to stay and 2., our residents get to enjoy a world-class, serene, natural location that provides plenty of room for all sorts of activities.

Some of the ways our residents enjoy their outdoor space include trail walking, bird watching, walks around the landscaped grounds, or simply enjoying the benches around the pond on the west side of campus.

In addition to nature, the campus features some man-made outdoor elements like our bocce court, gazebo, and al fresco dining patio.

On this Earth Day, we’re thankful for the natural beauty of our campus, its surrounding protected land, and the wildlife and plants we are blessed to enjoy all year round.

To see the campus for yourself, visit our contact page to schedule a tour. We would love to show you around.

Resident, Family Thank Crane’s Mill Staff for Helping Keep Passover Traditions

We received this letter about the Crane’s Mill staff and are excited to share with our readers:

My name is Margo Adelsberg and my Aunt Elaine Lieb lives at Crane’s Mill. I would like to relay my extreme thanks for helping my twelve year old son (and I) easily keep to our Passover Traditions while dining at Crane’s Mill last night.

I had called earlier in the day and spoke with Meredith at the front desk about Kosher Options available for us in the evening while we visited with my Aunt. She offered that the Chef would go shopping to purchase Kosher Meat and prepare it for us. I declined due to my son being a vegetarian, but was so appreciative of the offer. I then figured we would eat whatever we could while dining at Crane’s Mill and then come home and eat a full meal. I decided to bring a box of Matzoh that we could nibble on throughout dinner.

When we arrived to dine with my aunt, Sapna, came over and greeted us. I asked what options were a possibility to eat during dinner. I inquired about Matzoh Pizza. Sapna was so amazing that she took our box of Matzah to the kitchen and prepared Matzoh pizza for all of us. It was so delicious!

Big thanks to Meredith, Sapna and the chef for helping us feel comfortable and maintain our Passover traditions while at Crane’s Mill.

Sincerely,
Margo Adelsberg
