A Very Special End of Year Message from Karla Traficante
As 2012 comes to an end, I can’t help but reflect back and smile. Although personally I experienced some turbulence, the one constant was the joy of coming to Crane’s Mill every day.
I will often tell people that although some days it is challenging to get here (traffic, bad weather, illness), the minute I walk through the doors, I know that I am at my second home! I feel an immediate sense of joy. We talk about joy around the holidays but how wonderful is it to experience joy every day?
This year began with health lectures and exercise programs, followed by Casino Day, Open Houses, Lunch & Learns, and Resident Appreciation Days. We topped off the year with our annual Horse and Buggy event.
All along the way, our residents supported our efforts to continue to bring them new neighbors and friends. After working in this industry for over 10 years, I have never met a more welcoming group of people. They embrace our new residents immediately and instantly make them feel at home.
I am truly blessed to be a part of something that is so unique and special. Thank you to my Crane’s Mill family for your friendship and support. I anticipate 2013 will be another wonderful year!
May all of you experience the joy of the holiday season with family and friends. Have a Happy and Healthy 2013 and may all of your dreams and wishes come true.

A Look at The MillStream, published monthly by our residents.
Each month, we enjoy reading the resident-produced MillStream newsletter. In addition to brimming with fun articles and and updates from around the community, the MillStream features a calendar complete with each day’s events and activities.
Included are such standards as daily exercise classes, weekly happy hour in The Cherry Blossom Lounge, and of course every Friday there is Trail Walking with the wonderful Mike Mazur.
You will also find special events and trips. For instance, just yesterday a group of residents boarded a Crane’s Mill bus en route to Lancaster, Pennsylvania for “Christmas in Lancaster.” Attendees enjoyed “a visit to the National Christmas Center, lunch at the famous Good ‘N Plenty and a Christmas Show at the American Musical Theatre.”
Next week, residents take a look back at Christmastime in Victorian Newark with a trip to the nearby Newark Museum. Also on the agenda this month: The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, The Paper Mill Playhouse, Lincoln in the movie theater and more.
While transportation is fully included to these events, there are a plethora of things to do right here at Crane’s Mill. In fact, every Thursday evening there is live entertainment in Hinman Hall, the community’s multi-purpose auditorium. Tonight’s program is “Classics of the Broadway Stage.”
These programs are exclusive to our residents and members of our Mill Club. For more information on how you can join in on the fun, please call 973-276-3001 or visit the contact page on our website to drop us a note and say hello. We would love to hear from you.
We had a wonderful day for our annual Horse & Buggy Holiday Cheer celebration! Here are some photos from the day including a visit from a very special guest…enjoy!

Walking through Towne Square at Crane’s Mill for the first time can be breathtaking. From the grand entrance way with reclaimed wood to the dining venues and fitness center, it seems there is something fun, interesting or delicious at each turn.
What visitors may not know is that in the hall near the library and gift shop is an art gallery featuring an ever-changing roster of artists.
The Towne Square art gallery displays an array of visual treats including oil paintings, photography and more, providing residents access to museum-quality artwork right at their own front door. In fact, since Towne Square is attached to every Crane’s Mill apartment, one doesn’t need to go outside to enjoy the artwork.
This month the gallery features a local artist, Carloina Media, as part of a trio of featured painters. You can read more about the exhibit in this article from the Caldwell Progress.
The gallery is open 7 days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., so please feel free to stop by to see this colorful exhibit for yourself.
If you would like to see more of Crane’s Mill, please make an appointment by calling 973-276-3001 or click here to send us an email. We can show you around the gallery, Towne Square, and tour the community including selections from our 18 apartment and cottage floor plan options.

In Northern New Jersey, we have seen our fair share of tough winter seasons. Whether we’re faced with big snowfalls and icy sidewalks or blustery below-freezing temperatures, Jack Frost can really put a wrench in our daily lives.
At Crane’s Mill, residents are lucky to have a number of ways to stay fit, active and healthy regardless of the weather. In addition to the community’s wonderful fitness center and indoor pool, residents have access to morning exercise classes geared specifically for seniors.
Classes take place six days per week in Towne Square, which is connected to every single apartment, so residents need not go outside to participate. Just some of the offerings include Yoga, Water Aerobics, Stretch & Flex, Water Walking and Tai Chi. Expert instructors lead the classes and ensure that each resident enjoys a great workout while staying safe and comfortable regardless of their fitness level.
Best of all, these classes are 100% included for every resident.
Stay tuned, as we will feature more about Crane’s Mill residents and how they keep in good health all year round.
